DFW | May 2009 | Founders' Plaza | At least it's not raining

Man, can a brutha get a break and have decent weather for a change when spotting? Oh well...this is something different...sort of. Usually the Continental wingletted 737 Classics we get at DFW are 737-500s, this was the first time I'd seen a Continental 737-300 retrofitted with the winglets. DFW usually gets either 737-800s or 737-500s, sometimes the occasional -700. This particular aircraft, N14336, is an ex-New York Air bird built and delivered to Continental in December 1986 back when Sith Lord Darth Lorenzo was using New York Air as a union busting operation.

Hey Frontier, pay attention, this is your future.

First time I've caught the Republic house colors bird at DFW, this ERJ-170, N821MD, was built and delivered to Republic in September 2004 and has flown in the colors of US Airways Express and Frontier Express as well as Midwest Connect in its five years of operation.

Dang it, everytime I have my camera with me, the Mexicana A318 that arrives after lunch wears the old colors. When I don't have my camera with me, it's in the new colors. Bastards.

This particular aircraft is XA-UBU. Sit Ubu, sit. Built in December 2004 for GECAS who has been leasing it to Mexicana since then.

Heat haze trashed this shot, but most of the United A320s we see at DFW are in the old blue/gray colors, it was a nice change to see one in the full new colors. N414UA was built and delivered to United in March 1994 (it was originally built for Air Canada, but the deal fell through and United picked it up factory-fresh) and flew in Ted colors from 2005 to 2008.

This American 757-200, N645AA, was built and delivered to American back in May 1991 when they used to know how to make money. She was retrofitted with winglets last year.

Once again, using the call sign "King Cargo", is China Cargo Airlines' 747-400ERF. And once again, it's B-2425. This is pretty much the only ERF that China Cargo seems to fly to DFW. Other spotters have seen other tail numbers, but no, me and B-2425 go back a ways.

Here's the regular afternoon Skywest arrival in United Express colors. N752SK, is a CRJ-700 built in April 2005 for Skywest and has been flying its entire career so far in United Express colors.

Some days it feels like the only US mainline carrier flying new jets into DFW is Alaska. This is N563AS, a 737-800 built and delivered to Alaska in October 2006. Under the Boeing titles under the cockpit you can see the phrase "Proudly All Boeing".

Alaska's 737-800 N563AS (built in October 2006) seconds from touchdown with the American Eagle's ERJs in the background at Terminal B.

US Airways A320 on short final, this aircraft, N645AW, was built and delivered in June of 1999 for America West and got repainted post-merger in US Airways colors in January 2006.

Enjoy 'em while they still fly with these colors, this Northwest A320 was built and delivered to the airline back in April of 1991. This aircraft, N317US, is the the ninth oldest Northwest A320 still active, there are eight A320s even older (most delivered in 1990) still flying with the airline.

Finally got a picture of N826AW, the US Airways A319 in the Arizona special colors. Built in June 2001 for America West, it got its Arizona colors post-merger in April 2007.

N17619 is a 737-500 built and delivered to Continental back in October 1991 and I believe was retrofitted with winglets only last year.
